Tungle Android App – Getting There????

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On January - 15 - 2011

Tungle has become my choice service for scheduling meetings. I find it incredibly frustrating when trying to coordinate and schedule a meeting. It always takes forever, everyone involved isn’t guaranteed to check their emails immediately and things regarding the meeting time, date and location, usually get lost in translation. When Tungle came out, I received an invite code and was able to fool around with it with a couple of friends. I admit it blew my mind because 1) it was super easy to set up, 2) it was easy to start using, 3) it allowed me to take care of all aspects of planning a meeting from within the Tungle service, 4) it’s great to be able to look and see what dates your invited meeting guests are available directly in Tungle, 5) their notifications to guests are really convenient and 6) the fact that Tungle syncs with my Google Calendar is a HUGE plus.

Check out what Tungle has to offer

However, there is something very very important missing——-Yes, you’ve probably guessed correct – THERE IS NO NATIVE ANDROID APP and that really annoys me. For services I use on a regular basis, I desire a native android app. In fact, I get a tad angry when the android community is overlooked when it comes to developing native apps. I feel as pissed about Tungle not having an android app as I did when Evernote (another service I use daily and absolutely love) took forever and a day to develop an android app (they also opted to develop an app for the Palm Pre first before developing one for android – CRAZY!).

So, what do we all do when we are not pleased with a product or service we use? We take it to Get Satisfaction. To my surprise I wasn’t the only android user wanting this app. Well, long story short, 4 months ago they posted an image of the app in the works with a message that said “GETTING THERE”.

If you want to see this app come to reality – share your thoughts with the Get Satisfaction development team – http://gsfn.us/t/11syc.

Day 14 of 31 Days of Android App Goodness: mooLa (lite edition)

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On January - 14 - 2011

mooLa lite edition is a lot more than just a checkbook ledger. For a FREE app, it packs a lot of power. (Note: There is a platinum edition for $7.99).

Don’t use an app that downloads the data from your bank! The problem with apps that do that is that the bank doesn’t have accurate real-time information about your transactions. Credit/Debit card purchases could take DAYS to post to your account, and if you live on a tight budget you run great risk of overdrafting if you go by what the bank says your balance is (that’s always their plan though, isn’t it?)

Features:
- Multiple accounts tracking
- A Bill tracker
- Customizable categories
- Recurring transactions
- Data import/export/backup

Day 8 of 31 Days of Android App Goodness: GDocs

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On January - 8 - 2011

I’ve been hoping Google would put out an official Google Docs app, but they haven’t and they probably won’t. I guess it isn’t in high enough demand. However, for folks like me who use Google Docs exclusively, we hope for an app that will give us access to our docs from our android devices. The only app I’ve found is GDocs. It is not a perfect app and although I see some improvements from when I first installed this app over a year ago; it still has room for improvement. I wish it mimicked Google Docs a little more in terms of how the files and folders are named, organized and structured. But, I can’t complain to much. This app does a lot and the developer continues to improve it.

GDocs is a editor/viewer for your Google Documents. It is a FREE Android application that allows you create, edit, view, import, export and send documents as well sync documents with your Google Docs account.

Features of GDocs:

  • Multiple accounts support
  • Support of Google Apps accounts (Google Premier accounts)
  • PDF viewer
  • Automatic document synchronization
  • Localized to multiple languages (French, German, Hungarian, Norwegian, Russian, Romanian)
  • Android 1.5 supported (Motorola Droid, Nexus One, Hero, Touch, G1 & etc.)
  • Import/export of documents and files from Google cloud and your Android device

Day 7 of 31 Days of Android App Goodness: Flickr Companion

Posted by Naomi "DigitalFanGirl" On January - 7 - 2011

If you’re an android user who’s been looking for a Flickr app, join the club. I’ve been looking for one for quite some time as well. When I was using the MyTouch 3G Slide, Flickr was integrated in that phone. When you took pictures you had to option to upload them to your Flickr account and the stock gallery app that came preloaded on the phone also had Flickr ingrained in the gallery itself. My Droid 2 lacks the Flickr relationship, which is a little disappointing considering how much I love and use Flickr.

I tried almost every Flickr app from the android market, but the only one worth keeping is Flickr Companion. Flickr Companion is the pro app for Flickr Free and it only costs $0.99. I’ve only been using it for roughly three months, but it has been a consistent app and I really don’t have any complaints.

Flickr Companion features:

* Access multiple Flickr accounts
* Browse your Flickr photos, sets, collections and favorites you have saved on Flickr.
* View your Flickr groups and contacts.
* Download Flickr photos.
* Upload photos and videos to Flickr.
* Search Flickr for users, groups, tags and photos.
